Is PALS confidential?

Yes. PALS staff will not speak to anyone about the issue raised without previously obtaining your permission (except in special circumstances when we believe you or someone else may be at risk).

We will occasionally use anonymous experiences to illustrate patients concerns in training sessions and general feedback to the public.

Yes. Any feedback is important. The Trust is keen to build on good practice.

How can I be sure that my concerns have been taken seriously?

A continual analysis of concerns raised is made so that any area which needs addressing i.e. policy changes; information leaflets, training etc can be implemented.

Does PALS replace complaints?

No. The PALS team will endeavour to help you raise and solve any concerns or worries that you may have about any aspect of your care or treatment before it becomes a complaint. PALS can guide you through the complaints procedure and signpost you to other organisations that may be of help if you wish to make a formal complaint.

What issues are PALS unable to deal with?

PALS does not provide independent medical advice or treatment. The service does not replace your GP or any other health professionals that are responsible for your care. If your medical condition is urgent either contact your GP for advice or telephone NHS Direct on  0845 46 47
